The Church defined, into a true definition, not the physical location!

Friendly Reminder:

I thought I would share a friendly reminder as you go through your wonderful Sabbath day.

I heard quite possibly the best quote of my life in church about 8 months ago.  It reads, “God’s people are the church, the church isn’t the building or gathering place.”  - David, associate pastor of Campus Church (Cullowhee, NC)

You can check it out via campuschurchnc.com

So often we get ourselves caught up in going to “church” and forgetting that we “Christians” are the bride of the Lord.  So as you go through your day, week, month, year, and the rest of your life please remember that church is every single day…not just the days that you gather amongst your community to worship God.

This is a fundamental wrong in society.  Let’s celebrate and worship God with our actions every single day, rather than just allowing the time during “church” to be our time with God.

God is good, praise the Lord for all that He does!
In Love,

To start your day!

To get you started:

As you wake up this morning:

Our goal as Christians- reflect God’s radiant light off, so the whole world feels His greatness.

Do me a huge favor and humble yourself this morning, by realizing how precious your gifts are.  I’m not talking about your Christmas, Birthday, or whatever gifts, I’m talking about your God given gifts.  Think about how much God must love you, to give you life on this wonderful planet.  I suggest doing things like thanking God for everything that you have in life, because you deserve no credit for those gifts in life, only He does.  It was Him who bestowed those gifts upon you.

Perhaps, you have become complacent or feel like God doesn’t walk with you anymore.  That’s simply psychological, God is with you every second of every day.   So stop spending moments of the day asking where God, instead ask where your heart is.  God’s always there to seek and show His love towards you, so remember next time you breathe (the million times a day) that God loves you deeply.

I want to challenge you:  From now on, look at everything from the perspective of Jesus, rather than the perspective of man.  For we ARE supposed to be manifesting our minds to prepare for Heaven.

Ex: Next time you see someone homosexual that you may know, don’t look at them like an alien. Think of the story of Zacchaeus, where Jesus befriended a sinner and changed the entire complexity of the tax business.  I realize that the sins of Zacchaeus and a homosexual aren’t the same, but sins don’t carry weight.  A sin is equal to any other sin, the fact is it’s wrong in accordance to the Lord.  But read the way Jesus handled Zacchaeus, that’s the way we need to handle all situations in pertaining ones whom sin habitually.  As the Bible says, “With God, all things are possible”.  God can change the entire planet if we allow him to.  The question is, do we truly want Him to, or will we allow Him to change the world?  The answer thus far is, no.  We deny God all the time in our day and age.  Personally, seeing as God created us, that should change.  It won’t change until all brothers and sisters stand up for the one who created them!

  1. Humble yourself
  2. God’s always there
  3. Challenge yourself
  4. Befriend sinners as Jesus did

God is good to those who love Him, never forget that.

God bless,

My story, God's way of inflicting change.

Who I’ve become:

In all reality,

We are creatures of habit, we are creatures of pride and anxiety.  Our bodies thrive off things like attention, drama, speculation, or even the incoherent objectivity of love.

You see, I’m a boy, 22, senior in college, and a guy God calls His son.  In this world, we like to think of ourselves are superior, above, and quite frankly BETTER than everyone else.  Actually if I’m being honest, everyone and everything else, we believe that our products and our actions are that above all things, even the creator.  This is something that truly fascinates me in life and it probably didn’t resignate until God started working in my heart:

As many of you know, once my grandfather died, well my first grandfather that passed, it inspired me to better myself and become someone…who can truly say they live for God.  Since that cold January morning where I left school in a split second to come to WV to be with my family, I have noticed that I really have begun to appreciate what life is and more importantly…what life resembles.  I used to be like Thomas, the guy in the Bible is very cerebral and very thorough in his thoughts, but over time I’ve become much more simplistic in my faith with God.  I’ve become…realistic and understanding with what the Bible lays out there for us to digest.  In the past 18 months, I’ve become so cognoscente and understanding of the Bible that I am really at a loss for words, essentially because God has been blessing me beyond measures.  God has been…wowing my for some time now, which is why I haven’t written in a long time.  I’ve really “hibernated” my faith and spent so much time with God that…I can’t explain it.  It’s almost like the stories with Moses just spending time with God, unbelievable amounts, it’s like I actually have longed God so much that…I am in constant prayer and contact.

I have read, understood, grasped, and grown my breadth of knowledge with what the Bible has to offer over some time, but until my other grandpa passed away this spring…I didn’t fully understand why my desire to be with the Lord was so strong, but now I get it.  Now it’s like death has due (do) it’s part in my life, it’s like while others grieve, I grow closer to God.  It’s like while I grow closer to God, everyone else distances themselves from me.  It’s almost like I am alone at times, because I simply want to spend time with Christ, instead of “having a good time”.  It’s as if God has placed this unbelievable gift of passion and patience in my life, so much so that I truly never grow weary nor bored.  Over this extensive time, I’m much more diligent, obedient, and quicker to listen to God.

So I’ve said of a lot of facts, interesting thoughts, and altruistic ways to go about life, but here’s the key: My motivating actions.  Yes, my motivation has actually been composed of actions or events that have occurred in my past, that has brought me to where I am today.  The first is definitely growing up in a close-minded church, one that told me that it had to be “this way” or no way.  Another would be meeting my future wife, knowing that I have to guide her and lead her for the rest of my life.  The most fascinating event, aside from the deaths, would be an encounter with a preacher I have on campus, at school of course.  We met for a solid three or four hours one fall evening.  I remember walking on the track and talking scripture, I am blistering the man with questions and he looks at me and says, “I really like your fire, I like your desire, you’ll need that on those days it’s hard to open the Bible and work for the Lord”.  You know, as a naïve, up and coming passionate believer, I laughed and chuckled saying that would NEVER be me.  I would never be that guy who can’t open the Bible because I am tired or deaf to God’s ear.  That response has been my driving motivation to become all I can be in this life.  It’s been my driving motivation to begin to fully understand what God has in store for my life.

The next question you ask is….how has that worked out for you?  Aside from my fiancé, I’m not sure anyone knows how deep I’ve been going into the Bible and just letting God pour His Word into my heart.  Haha, every single one of you needs that experience, where you just give hours of days of weeks of months to God and let Him speak with you.  I call it, “spiritual hibernation”, because I believe it accurately depicts what it is we go through in our alone time.  What I’m learning is that life is much more about the acts of life, or dare I say the PREMISE of the acts of life.  I faithfully and assuredly believe that the reason all the miracles happened in the BIble is solely because the people actually had 100% faith that God could perform them.  They had so much faith that every single one PREPARED for their occurrences.  With all that being said, I am going through all this time and experience to show my upmost respect for my passed grandfathers and for the respect of God giving me the opportunity to share with others.  God has showed me that time: is of the essence, because once He stops breathing through you or I, it’s over, and we can’t get a moment back, so in life…the more time you spend pondering your past, the less time of the future you can fulfill God’s Will.

Now to the meat and the purpose of writing this massive blog:

I grew up in Church, we were the attendees that came a few times a month.  I grew up close minded, sociologically blind to all the issues that the church has.  But guess what?  Nothing in life happens for no reason, the people you meet, the acts you do, the people you love, the church you attend, the friends you see, or even the vehicles you drive all happen for a reason.  A reason that God only understands, but I’ve been blessed to see from God why I’ve experienced certain things throughout my life, God has cured my being narrow-mindedness and shown me that He capable of all things.  So I have a few things that may be considered “controversial”, but certainly things that need to be said.  Things that I have the upmost evidence in backing my stances and statements, for God has allowed me to see with clarity and compassion.

First:  Church has become too routine

How?  – Society treats church as a place for spiritual healing and an exclusive place where you can get this self-gratification for showing up and it’s a place to be appreciated for coming.  It’s almost…calculated now, even to wear who wears the nicest clothing is recognized.

Not what you wanted to hear eh?  -  I heard a man preach in Luke 19 about the good Samaritan, which rang a bell, one that I experienced personally.  Please, read this story with open-minded-ness, as I did not realize why I experienced this until now.

I, driving  vehicle borrowed from a friend, was driving with my dad and sister to church one morning…yes, driving to church, then we get the dreaded flat tire.  Now to give scriptural context for the relationship between the stories, guess where this person was in Luke 19?  On the …..side of the road, waiting for one whom was compassionate, genuine, and a follower of Christ.  Much like this man, we waited for some time, probably 30 minutes in 100 degree heat and our nice clothes.  Everyone passed and stopped…only to say, “sorry, I have to get to church or I would help”.  What do those people believe “Church” is?  You see, here’s a massive flaw in what we’re teaching people today, instead of following Christ, let’s follow our Pastor.  It’s a deadly, dangerous slippery slope, that people find it so much more important to be at Church, because they don’t believe they can experience Jesus away from that place.  So that begs the question…Why aren’t we in church preaching to people…pray on your own, read the BIble, and come back at me with questions or suggestions?  You see the good Samaritan story ends with Jesus saying the man is good and full of compassion, good translated to faithful in the New Testament.  What’s more important….reflecting God’s grace (Our entire mission) or going to a sermon?

You tell me!

Let me bring this full-circle.  It wasn’t until my grandfather passed away that I began to take the time to understand what being a Christian is actually about, aside from what I learned in Church.  Well, actually, after I began digesting on my own, I learned that I didn’t learn too much in Church, besides a bunch of Biblical trivia.  The truth of the matter is that I have been taught my entire life to live like Jesus, but was NEVER taught about how Jesus lived!   So I took it upon myself to learn about exactly the sociological and political issues within the Church and found out what Jesus thinks of them.  You see, something even as elaborate as denominations, play a role in our daily life, even so much so that people pick certain ones because they dislike one person who is one of the others.  To put it all into laments terms: Every portion of my life has transpired into a revelation of what we can do to better the church, much less better the entirety of the body of Christ, and fulfill our ultimate goal…to get as many names in the Lambs Book of Life as Possible.

Enough talking, let’s do it!

Here’s how:

1)  You’re Methodist, I’m Baptist, we can’t stand each other as denominations, but like each other as people…yet our churches won’t work together or cooperate.
Plenty of issues here:
A) We’re all going to the same Heaven, we’re all fulfilling God’s Will, so if you believe in Salvation, let’s do this and rock this world upside down with some Christ like LOVE!
B) We are to LOVE everyone and all people as ourselves, Romans 12:19 says it pretty well, just as a Christian perspective.
C) Romans 12 should be our example of how to live, not your denomination: Here’s why, God’s Word trumps all people and all understanding, for God is above us, so believing something outside of what God has put in place for us is being disobedient and quite coincidentally that you would believe something of the church, that isn’t in the BIble.  But hey! It happens, not the fault of the church, but a little more focus on the Bible would help.
D) Our Savior told us, because a woman asked, that we should always pray and thank for Heaven as if we’re preparing to go there, as it is our next destination and ultimately our permanent home.  So doesn’t simply common sense say that….if we’re all going to the same place…(Because Jews and Gentiles are all equal like Ephesians says) that we should begin our chemistry on Earth and work to prepare for the perfection we will experience on Heaven?

I could honestly go on for a while for just a simple sentence or two, that honestly happens every single day in Churches today.  If we’re ALL serving the same God and are all trying to live out God’s Will genuinely, then what does it matter who we affiliate ourselves with?  Let’s jump on board and live for Christ, not the denomination.

Oh wait…instead we do the opposite and let our pride ruin valuable opportunities to be ONE for Christ, rather than look okay to the world.  To that I said, I would rather have the Creator, rather than have all the people, as the Creator allowed them to be.

A lot of you are hating me right now, but hey, I hope it slaps you in the face because it’s reality.

Let me put this into perspective and why I believe that who God has made to me out to be is so overwhelmingly such a blessing.

Everyone knows Tiger Woods and knows Tiger Woods past, so much so that he has become a comic life at family reunions for his infidelities. Here’s the reality of the situation, Tiger and I have nothing in common aside from we both enjoy golf.  Tiger is a different race, a different religion, and has an extremely different past than I do.  But I pull for the man every single day in hopes that he one day sees God as the Creator and sees that Jesus, in fact, died to wash his sins aside and allow him to live with a clean white slate.  You see, here’s where I’m going with this, if Tiger Woods did become saved and believe in Jesus…we would both go to Heaven.  We would both have a similar rank job in Heaven as we are all equal in God’s eyes.  You could put me on the lower end to a preacher, we are all equal.  Romans 12 elaborates on that, no matter your job for God’s will, it is appreciated and respected, as we are all respected.  We couldn’t have one without the other, so instead of putting Christians on pedestals….which Christians put themselves on, let’s lower that and realize that we’re all equal and have one simple goal: Reflect grace on others, realizing that doing so is much more important than attending every single service that your church has to offer.  You see God rewards our actions, as long as the premise is genuine, in Heaven and will show us that He appreciates them.

Let me ask you…how do you think Jesus would’ve felt if He would’ve seen those many people turn down helping my helpless family for Church?  Do you think that’s what God intended the church for?  It’s a thought.

My point for all of this: Coincidence doesn’t exist, all of everything has made me who I am, and God has turned me into the man I have become.  My experiences within Churches, deaths, pastors, friends, families, and everything have made to who I am today.  My entire point is raise the simple thought that if we relinquish those connotations that the church has and actually start using the church as a place for reflecting grace…and getting the church back to the intentions of what it was meant to be…us, Christians, regardless of race, sex, denomination, language, or anything could finally take this world by storm and show non-Christians how awesome it is to be blessed by God.  We could actually step in and show the world what God has to offer everyone!  We could finally, together, unite as a body, and fulfill God’s Will to make fill that book, the Lambs Book of Life.

God bless and I love you all so graciously,

How to epitomize grace and stand for Jesus!

How to epitomize grace and stand for Jesus:

How to Epitomize Grace:

In life, we have this undeniable tendency to act selfishly, be unfaithful, display exuberance without righteousness, and take all of our blessings for granted that God has given us.  I am not here to convict, conflict, or condemn you in any way; I personally am here to raise awareness and to leave you questioning if you are living your life and leaving the same mark on the world that Jesus himself did.  In remembrance, it is out of great honor, reverence, and love that I can passionately say that Christ left an amazing taste of what God has to offer on this planet.  So when Jesus tells us that, “you will do greater things than even thee.”   This should be the ultimate wake-up call, that in due time, if we follow God to the fullest of our abilities, we can knock out some of those horrid adjectives I listed above.  Keeping in mind, that only through grace and peace through the Word is this possible though.  I beg the question, do you epitomize grace with your actions?

Although the obvious is that none of us are perfect nor will we ever be perfect, I can assuredly say that once Jesus died for us…God forever has pity on us and understands that we simply are little lambs following our lead lamb, along with following who we believe to be our Sheppard.  Before we jump into how grace is shown, first you must understand what grace is, along with who gives grace and have a solid understanding of life situations where grace and be applicable.  So let me begin telling you about Jesus, the one who saves, the one who lived our same life situations and battled temptation better than anyone ever before.  You see, Jesus lived on this planet to forever be our role model, to be the one we are to model ourselves after until God comes back and takes His bride, the church, home.  Christ, also known as Jesus, was brought to the world to be the ultimate sacrifice, to be such a sacrifice that no man would ever have to sacrifice their lambs again.  Friends, Jesus simply epitomized grace to the fullest extent.  So you ask how?

Grace can be defined in a multitude of ways, but let me give you some scripture to back up what grace truly is, because anyone can look up a word in a dictionary, but not everyone can take the initiative to pull a story out of the gospel and make it applicable to one of the greatest concepts the Bible and our lives have to offer.  I, of course, am unaware of your Biblical knowledge, so I will dumb it down a little to make sure it really hits the point home.  God’s work in Hosea defines grace.  In Hosea 1:2, the Bible states: “When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, “Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the Lord.”  Then in verse 3, the Bible tells us, “…He went and took Gomer…who then conceived and bore him a son.” Later, Hosea and Gomer continue to fulfill God’s wish of having children and add a daughter, but then this where things start to get out of line.  Before I go on and explain what exactly is happening here, I want you to think of Gomer as the prostitute on the side of the street, the woman who has abused her body through other men, who has been sold for sex, and is the ultimate desperate woman.  God gives Hosea a task, even after understanding exactly who Gomer is, Hosea follows with blind faith to fulfill what God has called Hosea to accomplish in his life.  Following the second child, Gomer commits adultery and has a third child with a different man, Gomer has went back to her old ways.  So in Chapter 3, The Lord says to Hosea, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, even as the Lord loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love cakes of raisins.” To quantify exactly what “cakes of raisins” means, in the KJV, it is more accurately described in laments terms as flagons of wine.  Flagons can be defined similarly to a flask.    So although the people of Israel love other gods and other materialistic benefits, the fact is that God asks Hosea to love Gomer as God loves us.  Often times we tend to focus on materialistic benefits like becoming drunk, producing sin, and things outside of what the Lord has in store for us.

But what God is saying here is, “I’ve loved you through all of this and I love all of you through all of this, so display the SAME grace on Gomer, as I’ve displayed with all of my people.  In response, Hosea decided to follow God’s orders and buy Gomer back, because she had become enslaved, for 15 shekels of silver and a homer and a lethetch of barley.  So then after Hosea buys her out of the slavery, Hosea lectures her as God would, “You must dwell as mine for many days.  You should not play the whore, or belong to another man; so will I also be to you.”  In verses 4-5 Hosea continues…”For the children of Israel shall swell without king or prince, without sacrifice or pillow, without ephod of household gods.  Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the Lord their God, and David their king, and they shall come in fear to the Lord and to his goodness in latter days.”  To sum of the ending of Chapter 3, Hosea puts this largely in perspective for Gomer, so that the picture and magnitude is much larger than just the relationship between the two of them, but as Hosea is following the relationship of the people of Israel and Christ.  This action of Hosea actually showing love to someone who is so…corrupt in the mind and constantly sleeping with other men and committing adultery, is an action perfectly described as grace.

The grace of Hosea here is a sample of the grace that we as people can distribute amongst all others, but the fact that Hosea had the audacity to follow God’s calling blindly is a testament to how following God blindly can result in a beautiful occurrence.  It’s proof and evidence that God can do anything and God’s calling is true and genuine, and that no matter how bad it gets, God will always have our backs.  Through faith, we can do all things through Christ in which He sets forth for us.  Ponder yourself as Gomer and God as Hosea, how often has God came to your rescue when the world had claimed you its slave?

Satan works tirelessly. Here's how to defeat Satan once and for all in your life!

Satan works tirelessly, the question is: How to defeat him?

Good morning,

I had someone ask me a question yesterday, one question that I felt like was a legitimate claim.  Today I will take the opportunity to write my blog on the same question, because I would be willing to bet that if this person had that question, that you probably do or have before!  Perhaps you’ve even heard a response to this question, but maybe a little different perspective can lead to a clearer understanding of an extremely vital topic associated with our Christian daily lives.

First, how are we supposed to model ourselves as Christians?  I will tirelessly reprimand that you look at Romans 12, the marks of a Christian!  As you grow closer to God, the world will grow further away, and once the world begins to grow further away, Satan will slip his little way into your presence.  Satan will work so hard to bring you away from God, he will slip all sorts of things into your mind and play like he is God and make you think it is God giving you the thoughts.  However, there are a multitude of ways to tell a difference between which it is!

Does it line up with Scripture?
You see, Paul tells us in Ephesians that one persons peace can only come from the Word and that understanding the Word can bring peace to oneself, as Jesus tells us in John that we will live freely and lively with God on our side.  Therefore, if the thoughts that you think are God, don’t align with scripture then it’s obviously not God. This is why it’s so important to have a strong prayer life and a strong knowledge of what the Gospel says.  Ultimately, anyone non-Christians would admit, that the way Jesus lived His life was a model citizen, one of society can only be appreciative of!

That begs the question:  How did Jesus handle Satan and his temptations?  Every single time, Jesus referred to His father and referred to God’s Word.  You can check me and back me up, which I ask you to do, but Jesus told Satan every single time that Scripture tells us completely otherwise, which is obviously not Satan’s proposition.  Perhaps, I would EVEN argue, that Jesus had it much more difficult than any other person on this planet would…does it not make sense that if we are tempted less that we should follow in the footsteps of the one who had it the worse?  Not only did Jesus get Satan’s A game, Jesus also showed Satan up every single time, in which He never faulted, never sinned, and always followed the ways of the Father.

Here’s what I ask you to do:  Here’s the way you defeat satan!

What do you struggle with precisely?  Work as hard as God does in blessing you each and every day….in finding out scripture to actually represent your faults.  Make sure what you read is IN CONTEXT, make sure you understand who the writer is, what the writer is specifically speaking of, and how that exact topic relates back to exactly what you’re doing with.  However, I ask that you not misrepresent the Bible and make it sound like whatever you want it to.  Meditate on it, digest it, pray about it, and understand how powerful God is and that His word can defeat satan if you clearly understand it!  Only by God and the Word can you be given peace from satan.

So quit reading this!!! Go dig into the Word.  Show satan what us Christians are truly about, show satan that we have the same work ethic as God does, as we were invented alike to our creator and in His image!

You want to see how God works? Here's a primary motive.

Want to see God work? Here’s the primary motive:

Good evening people of all genders, races, languages, and nations:

I want to discuss something…different than your ordinary Christian blog.  I want to address how WE can personally see God work, rather than boast on all the things God has done by working.  Before I get into my point, I want to make a few assumptions; if you are taking your free time to read a blog on wanting to see God work, I can assume you’re either a Christian and looking for answers.  That or you could be a person who isn’t quite a “believer” yet, but skeptical on the idea of God actually having this all-mighty power in which He has.  Of course, there may be many of you who don’t pertain to either category, but nonetheless this can pertain to every single one of your lives.

How often do you check Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, etc. and see posts with how God is moving or how God is all-consuming, all-powerful, and nothing is impossible through Him.  My guess is that it’s frequent, because those of us who do love God, love to brag on our creator, but often times we take the assumption that everyone understands the intricacies involved in loving God and watching God work.  The mere reality is that we are often victims of our inadequacies, because while we boast on God moving, we aren’t exactly sure what the “prerequisites” are for God to immeasurably greater things than we are accustomed to.

In regards to all that I’ve said thus far, I want to talk about God feeding the 5,000 people:
The question: What is so significant about God’s son, in flesh, Jesus miraculously turning 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish into feeding a multitude of persons?
The answer:  The answer is much more complex than the prevailing miracle can explain.  So I’ll explain how God can move, not only in your life, but the lives of everyone.
How about we run through the actual scripture on the matter, let’s look at Matthew 14.
Granted, this is one of the few instances where you know the results before you hear the story, because you already understand that Jesus is going to feed a multitude of people.  But much more than the action itself is important here:  Understanding the WHY is crucial in understand how God can move in our lives individually, or as a church, or community, or a state, even a nation can be changed by this sheer principle.  Faith.
Where is faith?  Let’s check it out from the perspective of Matthew, writing the Gospel:
v.15-21 (ESV)
Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16 But Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” 17 They said to Jesus, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” 18 And Jesus said, “Bring them here to me.” 19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to Heaven and said a blessing.  Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20 And they all ate and were satisfied.  And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over.  21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Hm.  When we look at this passage there are many ways it could be interpreted, one of which the disciples told Jesus that the people should be self-sufficient and buy their own food, for themselves.  This is really fascinating to me, because logically, these people are voluntarily taking aside from their lives to follow Jesus around essentially.  The common sense ideal is to send the crowds, where Jesus has already healed all their sick people, away so they can get their own food and everything can start fresh the next day.  So the day is now over, I imagine it being about dusk, the sun is probably setting, and Jesus says…don’t send them away, we can give them something to eat.  You see, look at this from a different perspective, these are people who are passionately thanking Jesus for the healing, loving Jesus, sticking to Jesus, and the disciples think the best decision is to send these people away, but Jesus has it right here, Jesus is saying…Guys let’s not send away our own, let’s feed them, show them that God can provide under any circumstance!!!  So of course, the disciples have the …logical, rational, and conservative response with well Jesus…we only have 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, how the in the world are we going to feed 5,000 men + all the women + all the children here in this hurting area?  Hm.  Good question. But follow Jesus’ response here, “Bring them to me.” How cool is Jesus?  Does Jesus frantically panic?  Does Jesus say, gosh guys…you’re right, we don’t have enough to offer…hm let’s just send them away for the night.
Nah, of course not, Jesus does what Jesus always does, which is find a way to show the people that God always can provide regardless of any circumstance.  But here’s where things turn it up a notch, here’s the premise of the message, Then Jesus ORDERS the people to sit on the grass, historical documents and context tells me they sat in circles, as if there were tables all over the area.  Jesus subtly says, prepare and I’ll break the bread, give the blessing, and let God provide.  God in fact provides substantially more than just enough to feed a few people, God provides everything for these people and even enough for twelve baskets to remain full. God even gave them left-overs.  The portion sizes were more like Red Lobster rather than your home-country cheap little diner.  You see, but there’s a greater point here than just Jesus prayed, Jesus blessed, and Jesus gave.  The greater message is that Jesus prepared the people, Jesus ORDERED that these people prepare themselves for a miracle.
I mean let’s put this in perspective, it’s like we’re at a football game and there is a promotion that there will be free pizza and Pepsi at half-time, so all sorts of people attend the game, knowing free-food is going to be offered at half-time.  So then at half-time, Papa John’s rep comes out on the Microphone and says…we have one pizza and a 2-Liter of Pepsi and this is going to provide for everyone of you guys.  Can you imagine the PR stunt that would be going on?  Twitter, Facebook, etc would be going nuts if this happened, people would be mocking, screaming, angrily acting out, and so many other impatient emotions towards Papa John’s.  Which is fair, but you see then Jesus comes into the picture and says…sit down. Sit down on the grass, socialize, prepare as if dinner will be served.  Don’t just mock me, but believe me, and forever understand that your Father is there.  So then back to the game,  imagine that everyone at the game sits still and gets in their seat, faithfully believing that the one pizza is going to be sufficient for all of the people.  It seems quite ridiculous, honestly.
But God is ridiculous, irrational, and illogical, because God is creator and we are the creation for a reason.  God can do anything that He feels like, because God contains all of the power in the world.  Nobody at that football game would believe that Pizza would be sufficient for everyone, so I assume with reason that the people had a hard time believing that Jesus would make enough food for all the people.  You know what’s even more fascinating is that the disciples, who had already witnessed a miracle that day…didn’t believe Jesus could provide, they just assumed that these people would do the rational thing, and go find their own food.  So knowing that the disciples weren’t even certain or considerate of the idea, I assume that 50,000 hungry football fans wouldn’t believe it be possible either.
So my point to you is much greater than God feeding people, because God promises to us many times that He will provide for those who love Him dearly, whole-heartedly, and compassionately. But you see, in every miracle that the Bible has, every miracle that Jesus did, or the people did, or anyone did began with something like, “…sit down on the grass…” prepare and blindly have faith that God can do anything.  You see the miracle itself is astonishing, but the premise behind all the miracles is even more mind-blowing.
So to relate back to the title:  If you want to see God provide for you, move in your life, move in your area, help beat an addiction, or anything…You have to first prepare for God to move.  If it’s God’s Will to be done, it will be done, but if you want God to help you…If you want God to strengthen you and defeat something, you’ve first got to prepare for God to do it.  You see, Satan is going to attack you until the day God puts you in Paradise, as a believer, but I assure you that if you stay persistent, and you let God do what God can do…anything can happen. Remember that, anything in this world can happen if you simply prepare for God’s Will to be done.
God is so good!  God has graciously saved me from all the sins I’ve ever partaken in, I hope that I can do as Jesus said, “ye shall do greater things than thee”. I hope that through God, I can help the Church, help believers find the unbeliever and with Jesus’ help do greater things and reach more lost people.
Thanks to all the viewers, it’s astonishing to see God’s platform work here, as now I’ve had 97 nations view this blog.  May God get all the glory and Honor and Love that I have to offer.

The Bible is so big, where to start reading?

The Bible is so big, where to even start? How do I even study it?

Good evening to people of all towns, states, nations, continents,

It is my upmost privilege to be able to use a highly technical thing called a laptop to write to all of you.  As my blog followers know, I have been on a mission and that mission to learn about Jesus as much as humanly possible.  I now believe the brevity of my knowledge far surpasses anything I could have ever dreamed of.  God’s blessed me so much that I honestly struggle having a conversation that doesn’t include Jesus.  Much like the man who was healed at the lake, I want to tell the world all Jesus has done for me! But that’s sort of what we’re supposed to do, eh?

It has been my main emphasis in writing to you all over some time now, that we maintain our premise in that we are to live as much like Jesus as absolutely possible.  We are to follow the life of Jesus and ensure that our actions and His actions can be unified.  Or at least, that is the goal.  I really like the way my current pastor says this, it’s something to the effect of,  I want to see imperfect people follow a perfect God.  Realizing where our faults may be is so crucial in exhibiting a successful relationship with God, because God knows we’re jacked up…Everyone is a sinner, frankly, we’re all jacked up…But how we boldly ask for Jesus’ help could be the whether or not we get guidance, which is contingent upon whether you faithfully believe what we’re asking.

Much like James says, ” If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father.  He loves to help.  You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it.  Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought.  People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves.  don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.”

So today I would like to keep things very basic and simple for you, because I do have a lot of viewers who will email me and be like…”Where do I even start in the Bible, it’s kind of a big book?”  or…”You know, I would really like to get better at (insert your problem), but I’m not quite sure where to find it in the Bible.”  There are even seasoned Christians who will say, “You know, I really like what you write but sometimes it goes a little over my head.”  So in lieu of those statements/questions, I would like to keep this blog very basic:

Answering the question:  The Bible is so big, where to even start? How do I even study it?
This question is an extremely intimidating question and honestly, I believe it’s the main reason that people stray from God’s Word.  Often times people tend to think that going to church is all that your relationship with God consists of, but this is not the case.  As it will be really hard for you to grasp the concepts in a sermon without having some sort of background with the information/historical context.  Let me set it up to you like this:
We’ve all been in classes before, right??  The classes where if you don’t read and prepare for your quizzes/tests/exam that you will legitimately fail the course.  It’s flat out like that because your preparation for class-time is sequential to the success that you will have in the class.  I like to think of Bible study very similarly, because the more prepared and devotional work that you do aside from being in Church, the greater your ability to grasp concepts will be.  After you begin truly sustaining a successful devotional plan, you will begin having those “AH HA” moments and those “Really? Wow that’s really cool!” .  Actually, that big boring book (that most call it) called the Bible, suddenly becomes extremely fascinating.  So much so that the words will literally begin to jump off the page at you, because you are so in-tune with exactly what it is going on.
Major example, if you just picked up the Bible and flipped to Revelations and had no context of what Revelations was about…you would seriously struggle with what was going on and you would make your own judgments about what the text is supposed to mean, rather than the perfect intentions of God, himself, through John.  Enough rambling, so where to start?
  • Understand your context
  • Who is the writer?
  • When does this take place?
  • Culturally, what is going on at this time?
  • Why is this book written?

You get the gist, understand the book and the writer before you ever begin to read it.  This may sound silly for a book like Philemon, but understanding why a one page book was written helps so much understand the significance of Paul writing to his great friend Philemon.   But if you can understand all of the things above and more, you will begin to feel as if you’re writing the book along with the writer.  From there things will begin to make so much more sense, as opposed to just making…eh, dare I say, “your best guess”.   Okay, so now you can successfully say that someone has made you aware of a starting place to study the Word, whether you apply it is up to you, I am just giving something that has really helped me in my developmental process.

Where do you start in the Bible?  Do I start from Page One?  Do I start in the New Testament?  How about do I start at Revelations and work backwards?   Honestly, I don’t care where you start in the Bible, as long as you are keeping everything in context and assessing the conceptual ideals, then applying them to your daily life.

Okay, so now you understand how to study the writer, Word, and know that what you learn must need to be applied to your daily living.  (The Bible will tell you that a lot)   One nice place to start may be somewhere like James, where the book is seemingly compiled of sermon notes and let’s us in on how the first churches were ran and what our churches are supposed to be today.  Keep in mind, James, one of Jesus’ closest friends would know much better (Seeing as He knew Jesus personally) how to run a church rather than we would today.  James is a very fundamental book that would help you learn a lot of things that may be common sense, but you just need to see it on paper.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or anything: feel free to share with me or others.  I thank you so much for taking the time to read this brief, elementary, but insightful blog that will hopefully help someone get on their feet again and getting in the Word.  I’ll throw this in there, if you want one of those fantastic relationships with God, it will take a lot of work, so don’t think that over night God is going to radically solve all of your issues.  Our beliefs and our relationship in God is much more like a toddlers crawl.  Assuredly, God will prepare you if you will allow Him, He is so faithful.

Again, thank you so much for your time.  I love each and every single one of you. God bless you!

Jeremiah, Daniel, and...Jesus? What's the connection between the three?

Jeremiah, Daniel, and Jesus? What’s the connection? Dare I say this generation too?

Good evening all:

God spoke something pretty intense to me today!  I thought I would share this with you, my friends of all states, nations, and ethnicities:

Daniel 9:24: “Seventy sevens are set for your people and for your holy city to throttle rebellion, stop sin, wipe out crime, set things right forever, confirm what the prophet saw, and anoint The Holy of Holies.”

To give you a little context, Daniel had just prayed a prayer asking what the truths and treasures were of Jeremiah’s prayer seventy years prior.  Since this prayer by Daniel was near seventy years since Jeremiah’s encounter with God, he was simply wanting to know the significance and what was about to come.  At the time, people were very content with the state of the temple and it was in fluxed with horrid sin, desolation, and other horrid connotations.  Daniel was looking for “a savior”.

Now that you have a little context,

This may blow your mind a little bit, but 490 years to the date of when this took place, Jesus was born.  Hmm, isn’t that fascinating?  Exactly Seventy sevens (70×7=490), Jesus was sent for Daniel’s people and for Jerusalem to stop sin, wipe out crime, and set things right forever.  Jesus was sent to restore the temple!  Jesus was sent to destroy the impact of sin.  Jesus was sent to wipe out all crime!  Jesus was the answer that Jeremiah and Daniel was looking for!

Okay, so now you understand what God’s futuristic intentions were for Jerusalem and for the eventual Church, now I beg the question:  Is the Church of today in the same state that the temple was in Daniel’s era?  Sin-filled, destructed, and desolate?  Dare I even say that we are…content like in the days of Moses, prior to Joshua?   I see churches all of the time today leading people to the ways of society or the way of conservatism, rather than the way that Jesus lived.  Jesus essentially displayed grace, love, and mercy to all people, not just the people of status.

Let me bring this home for you:  If you see a church that is content, sin-filled, destructed, etc.  I am here to tell you that a lot of non-believers look at the Church, the building (not the bride adorned for God), look at the church as a money grubbing business.  I am not making any accusations, assumptions, or anything, but I am making the statement for awareness:  Jesus is the ONLY ONE who can restore “the temple” and unless we are Jesus centered, Bible believing churches, we can never properly lead people to the ever-faithful God.  Jeremiah, Daniel, and our generation are looking for a savior to an ever content temple and peoples.

Let us not be content in our faith, but act out faith our in full-force and look to God for ALL things.  Let us brag on our precious creator and rejoice and give thanksgiving FOR ALL things, regardless of their nature.  As it is God who makes everything, every breath possible.

I thank you for taking the time to read:  I am a God loving person, who is looking to spread the truth out, and let everyone know that Jesus is the absolute truth and the only way that we can restore the church, and well….turn America and the world back to Jesus!

God bless!

A guide on how to study the Bible!

A Study Guide – “How to study the Bible” – Example

Good morning to all:

First and foremost, I love Jesus, I love all of the things that Jesus stood for on this planet, and most importantly I strive to live each day in the same way as my savior did.  As many of you know, this blog is read world-wide, and God continues to interact with people all over this globe that I could not even imagine attempting to witness to.  Yesterday I received a high number of views from people in the Philippines, which is pretty fantastic because in America, it’s literally impossible for me to be there and try to interact with those people and show them the ways of Jesus.

What does this even matter? :

As many of you may know, my motto is John 14:12 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.

My inspiration is knowing that Jesus, himself, states that we can do even greater things that Him, through God, because Jesus went to the Father and was sacrificed for our very sins.  It’s quite funny how God works, here I am behind a computer…typing away and understanding that through God because of Jesus…literally these words induced by the Holy Spirit will be read by anyone around the world.

Enough with the update!

Here is a sample way that I would encourage you to study before delving into a random passage.  The reason that we should not just jump into the middle of Luke or any book in the Bible and think we understand the context because of a paragraph…is because we do not understand fully and cannot maximize our true potential by limiting ourselves and our knowledge.

A Few Tips: I am going to use the book of Luke as the primary example

First, study who the writer is and what the writer was like as a person:  Luke was a very well-known doctor, HIGHLY educated in Greek, and did the fullest extent of research before writing his gospel.

Second, understand what language did the writer speak:  Luke is the classic example of this, Luke had an array of vocabulary I’m sure, but what’s extremely interesting about the book of Luke is that he wrote the book in Street Greek (Slang) rather than the level of intellect of himself.  Why?  Probably so that it would be much easier to understand by all of the people, so that it could be read by all of the people and not limit the entire population of who can or cannot read the Gospel of Luke.  Fascinating little tidbits like this will help you understand the book much better, it’s like getting to know the writer.

Third, did the writer only write this book or other books as well?  Luke also wrote the book of Acts, so it would be smart to read Luke and the read Acts, so that you can fully understand the writer and understand all of the idiosyncrasies that are associated with him, the writer.

Fourth, when did the writer physically write the passage?  Or in some instances, like Luke’s case, when did the events in the book take place?  The time frame of the book of Luke was between 6 B.C and 30 A.D.

Fifth, what was going on in the history of the vicinity of Luke?  Augustus Caesar became Rome’s first emperor and indicatively invented the ideology of Roman Peace, which coincidentally the peace came from war.  Augustus was thought to be, at the time, “the savior of the world”, but again the peace wasn’t peace, as tons of lived were spared so that the leaders could experience the “peace of Rome”.

Sixth, who did Luke associate himself with? Or what do we know about his personality?  Well, as previously mentioned, Luke is an extremely intellectual person, but also Luke was a very fond friend of Paul.  Luke met Paul through Paul’s ministry.

Now, is this is the perfect study guide to getting to know the writers of the Bible?

-No, it is not perfect, but this is definitely something that will get you on the right track.  I try to understand and make time-lines for each book of the Bible, in order to actually understand when the books were written, why they were written, and what are they written about.  Also…what are things like while the book is being written?

-Matter of fact:  I would highly suggest that you that add MORE things, as I do, when trying to fully understand the depth and the complexity of the circumstances of the writer.

I thought I would share with you a sample of what I do before I delve into books of the Bible.  In making the outlines, study guides, timelines, etc. it fully allows me to put events into place and see things they way that things used to be like.  I believe it’s essential to understand the context and understand the circumstances, if you FULLY want to comprehend and understand the Gospel.

I thank you for your time and consideration!  These are small little things that I believe are crucial to fully maximizing your time in the Word.  God is so good and has given us an amazing book that we can use in all aspects of life.  I thank God for all that He does, He is beyond anything I can even comprehend or grasp.  The magnitude of the Bible will never go unknown, it is truly mysterious, lovely, and awe-inspiring.

God bless!

God's love is unquanitfiable!

God’s love is not quantifiable.

I can’t emphasize enough how much God loves us. As you go through your Friday night and your weekend, truly consider God’s outlook on your actions. He sacrificed His own Son so that we could live and be forgiven of our consequential sins. Let’s not only celebrate the live of Jesus on Easter, Christmas or other holidays, but why not every single day?  Next time, don’t just blow off your sin like it’s nothing, like there’s some sort of justification that makes it’s societal apparatus “okay”, but rather allow God to sanctify Your being and allow Him to help you escape temptation to do wrong…exactly as He did for His son.  God bless you all.  I, along with our Father, love you dearly.

As always, please feel free to share this blog wherever you view this from.  This is not about me, but about reaching the lost from anywhere in the world! God is so good to all of us!

Generousity and where it plays a role in Christian living. This is coming from Jesus, himself.

Generosity and where it plays a role in Christianity: From Jesus himself.

Someone needs to hear this:
Jesus went on to tell a story to the guests around the table.  Noticing how each had tried to elbow into the place of honor, he said, “When someone invites you to dinner, don’t take the place of honor.  Somebody more important than you might have been invited by the host.  Then the host will come out and call you out in front of everyone saying, “You’re in the wrong place.  This place belongs to another man.  Red-faced, you’ll have to make your way to the very back, the only place left.  When you’re invited to dinner, go and sit at the last place.  Then when the host comes he may very well say, ‘Friend, come up to the front.’ That will give the dinner guests something to talk about!  What I’m saying is, if you walk around with your nose in the air, you’re going to end up flat on your face.  But if you’re content to be simply yourself, you will become more than yourself.”
This next part is the kicker! So intense.
Jesus next turns to the host, “The next time you put on a dinner, don’t just invite your friends and family and rich neighbors, the kind of people who will retrun the favor.  Invite some people who never get invited out, the misfits from the wrong side of the tracks.  You’ll be– and experience — a blessing.  They won’t be able to return the favor, but the favor will be returned — oh, how it will be returned!  At the resurrection of God’s people!”  – Luke 14: 7-14.

– I heard a message last night by a very generous man who came to Western, the message was on acceptance, and how we should accept people as God has accepted us.  I believe this story by Jesus illustrates an opportunity for acceptance and an incredible way to reflect God’s radiant light amongst our peers.  If we start performing favors for others, who cannot repay us, it is there where true pure generosity will take place.  May God get all of the glory!

Feeling stagnant with God?

God will reveal His plan for your life, in His due time! Feeling stagnant? Maybe this is for you.

Good evening all:
Reading through Jeremiah, this is about to get real!

“Before I shaped you in the womb, I know all about you.  Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you:
A prophet to the nations- that’s what I had in mind for you.”  …
But I said, “Hold it, Master God!  Look at me.  I don’t know anything. I’m only a boy!”
God told me, “Don’t say, ‘I’m only a boy.’ I’ll tell you where to go and you’ll go there.  I’ll tell you what to say and you’ll say it.  don’t be afraid of a soul.  I’ll be right there, looking after you.”   -Jeremiah 1:5-8

I’m not quite sure about you, but when I read that….I am in awe, I am in awe of the fact Jeremiah and God had that ‘moment’ where the vivid vision was pure and authentic!  So often you and I think that God is supposed to just magically show us our future and miraculously everything goes perfect.  It is as if we expect God to literally open our eyes and suddenly we can fulfill His will and everything is good. Perhaps, but it doesn’t quite work like that!
I have no clue where you are in your life, I know that there are people that view this blog in places like Uganda, Paraguay, Tanzania, Russia, etc.  so I cannot honestly speak to where you are:  But here is where I am,  God is practically revealing things in my life over short spans of times.  I am an extremely impatient person as I like to get things done in the most effective, yet most correct way possible.  I am a “time” management critique if you will, I attempt to maximize my time in all that I do.  With that being said though, when dealing with God I get this…urge to be impatient and wonder why God hasn’t given me some vivid detailed description of what my life holds.  So God always has to hit me upside the head and tell me over and over and over again that….it is not MY WILL, but HIS WILL and that it’s HIS way and no other.  When I am ready, He will reveal this to me.
Here’s the beautiful thing, lately God has slowly been revealing things to me and things that I could have never imagined.  God is opening doors that I could have never imagined been opened.  But God continuing to bless me isn’t the point I’m writing to you today, the point that I’m writing to you today is: God will tell reveal His Will in His due time.
Let me get a question in here:  How often do you find yourself making decisions that will infinitely impact your life?

- Consequently, each and every day we make decisions that literally alter our lives; whether it’s a good or bad infinite decision that is sort of up to us.  But it is very easy, because we have so much power, to do things without really considering the consequences.  Perhaps it’s something such as taking a drink of alcohol or maybe it’s even just binge eating.  These decisions will forever impact the detriment of your life.  Believe it or not, if turned habitual, they will impact generations forever that come after your life via your family.  God has given us enough rope to hang our selves with, so to speak, but the reality is that God is always at the end of the rope, God is always tugging back on us letting us know that our shortcomings are wrong.  This is called our conscious.  This innate instinctive fresh perspective that tells us from when we are children whether something is right or wrong.  It’s an amazing thing God programmed into our brain, isn’t it?  Or are you reading this and of the impression that there isn’t a God?  If so, why?  If so, how?  If so, explain how that a study was done that 95% of 12 month old children understand the concept of right and wrong by performing a play with stuffed animals and the children always chose the good guy to play with?  Explain how there’s this sense of what is acceptable by the majority of society and how it’s so defined that societies for generations used to actually live by those defaults!   You see, typically we make decisions knowingly or unknowingly based on this conscious that God has programmed into us…this is why cultures around the world typically have the same value system.  Here’s another nugget – have you ever noticed that worldwide we have the EXACT same facial expressions?  Have you ever noticed that every person when they’re sad…cries.  Every person when they’re happy…they smile?  When something tastes sour they scrunch their face?  These are literally things that are universal and that were built into our very being, I am sure God has something to do with that.  We’re able to communicate so fundamentally with every human based on our facial expressions, absolutely amazing.  I am not one to believe in coincidence, or one to believe that these multiple similarities could be that of a coincidence.

Here’s where I’m getting at!  God creates us ALL in His own image, God gives us power to do as we choose on this planet.  We have the freedom and liberty to do so.  But I bet that 99.9% your conscious tells you one thing and you do the other without even taking into consideration the consequences.  Have you ever thought that…well maybe God was speaking to you?  Let me rephrase that…would Satan ever tell you the morally correct thing to do?  It’s just a thought, well a rhetorical fact if you will.  Next time, instead of being disobedient, give it a shot and see God out.  After all, He is kind of control of everything, yeh?

In our obedience God lends opportunity, God lends support, and with true faith in Him God will forever love and be faithful to us to a fault.  God will always leave us speechless, although we cannot ever pay Him back for the sacrifice that He made for us, yah the one where He sent His only Son to the cross in order for us to have a relationship with Him.  The magnitude of that is surreal, it is…ridiculous, illogical, and unbelievable.  But God had a choice between His Son or His creation and remarkably He chose to save us forever.  So that our debt would forever be paid.  Now if that isn’t good news, I am unsure as to what is!
After showing such obedience and faith, God will begin preparing you for where He wants you to be.  It will be a process, it will be slow moving, but God’s Will is of the upmost importance…not our pride.  As you continue to follow the steps that God has laid out for us in His amazing Book, The Bible, He will slowly reveal in time what exactly He wants out of you.  But here’s what the difficult part happens and this is the part that I currently reside in.
Our view of persistence is God’s view of patience:  Let me clarify that for you one more time, the persistence (perpetual movement towards progress) is God’s view of patience (slow mowing faith).  You see we use patience as an excuse, ‘I’m just waiting on God to tell me what to do’.  Have you ever thought that in order to achieve faith that you must blindly walk right into what you are supposed to do?  Almost as if God moves you…for you, so that you do not have to?  Yeah, God is pretty crafty like that:  It’s the state that I am currently in, God is revealing very slowly what I am supposed to do in my life for Him, but blessed be known God ultimately will make that decision for me.  I will follow His commands.  I understand that more than likely I’m not going to have a moment like Jeremiah and God had, but I am sure that God will lead me and be my shepherd!   God will give me the strength, wisdom, experience, and the for thought of what it takes to do whatever He asks of me.
So my entire point of writing this peace was to give a logical progression of what it’s like to experience something like I am currently experiencing, rather than something as obvious as Jeremiah, because it is so easy to become discouraged when God doesn’t just flat out tell you all the details…it’s like He just leaves you hanging.  However, that’s just your pride and perception!  God is always using you in ways that you could never imagine.  Do not be discouraged God is always with you, friend.
In His time, He will reveal to us: Do not lose sight of our one mission on this planet! -BRING GLORY TO THE ONE WHO CREATED US.
I continued to reiterate the same point over and over again, but only because it was intentional.  It is so vital that we not be discouraged and that we understand God has a plan for our life.  God is so good, to those who faithfully love Him.
Thanks for the constant support, God bless you all and I love you!

Dissecting Psalm 3, if you struggle dissecting the Bible...please use this as a credible guide! Context is everything!

Dissecting Psalm 3, assistance on understanding passages. Struggle comprehending the Bible? This is for you!

Good morning to all:

Yesterday I met with a very good friend of mine, someone who recently (a little over a month) made the decision to believe in Christ as his Savior.  Together we meet quite often to run through things and I attempt to answer any questions.  Yesterday, like many of you, his question was about dissecting a Psalm.  His response was, “Books like Matthew or Genesis, it just makes sense, but Psalm is just different and harder to understand.”

I appreciated the genuine feedback, so here’s how you dissect a Psalm.
  1. Context, context, and more context is absolutely essential.
  2. Understanding the writer, what was David like?  Why was he writing a Psalm?
  3. Reading first from a broad perspective, then logically breaking down David’s words.
  4. Prayer and mediation are everything.

This Psalm is from David, when he ran for his life and escaped from his son, Absalom.
Psalm 3:
God! Look! Enemies past counting!
Enemies are sprouting like mushrooms,
Mobs of them all around me, roaring their mockery:
“Hah! No help for him from God!”

But you, God, shield me on all sides;
You ground my feet, you lift my head high;
With all my might I shout up to God,
His answers thunder from the holy mountain.

I stretch myself out. I sleep.
Then I’m up again – rested, tall and steady,
Fearless before the enemy mobs
Coming at me from all sides.

Up, God! My God, help me!
Slap their faces,
First their cheek, then the other,
Your first hard to their teeth!

Real help comes from God.
Your blessing clothes your people!
(MSG)

At first glance, this Psalm seems pretty intense and you probably have zero idea as to what it actually means or represents, but let me guide you in the logical progression that takes place here.  Read through it a few times and really grasp conceptually what David is saying here.  Granted, I will explain below, but see if you cannot come up with the explanation on your own, it will hone your skills and help you be able to delve into the Gospel more frequently!

David in the first stanza is saying, look God I’m isolated…I’m all alone…everyone around me are enemies.  The mushrooms illustration is a good one, you know as well as I do…once of those bad boys begins to grow, pretty soon they are EVERYWHERE.  They are all around you and in increasingly high numbers. He’s saying there are mobs around me, they’re all enemies of you, Father!   Similar to the Christian lifestyle these days in American, few and far between surrounded by enemies who will not buy into the amazing grace God has to offer.

The second stanza, David is like look no worries because no matter how isolated I am…you’ve got my back on all sides from all angles.  You will always be there for me, my feet are grounded and my head is lifted high.  It is like our feet are concrete in our foundation of our faith and because of our audacious faith and not being the same as the mushrooms spreading everywhere, we can lift our head high as we are trying to get out the Gospel! And no matter how alone I feel, forever you’ll be there for me and I can always shout up and pray to you.

The third stanza, at the end of the day David understands that once he goes to get rest, he can be as comfortable as he wants because God will give him the proper nourishment that is essential for his daily living.  He understands that with God on his side, he will wake up ready and fearless because God will shield him on every side.  What a testament of audacious faith, my friends!

The fourth stanza is where this gets tricky, because if you just read the stanza you will not understand what the heck the purpose of it is:  When David says, “My God, help me!  Slap their faces, First this cheek, then the other, and Your fist hard to their teeth!”  But David isn’t actually suggesting that God go punch all of them in the face or slap them in the cheek, and if you see it that way, you really need to work on conceptualizing passages.  The Message Bible is a great translation, but if you do not fathom and comprehend the intricacies, I wouldn’t exactly suggest you reading it.  So here’s what David means, David is like My God, help me! Help me give them the reality check so they can see YOUR face father.  He wants God to wake up them out of their spiritual coma and see the light in which is God.  So David isn’t exactly suggesting God get in a fight with all of them, but actually that save them from their blind worldly living and show them the reality check they need!

The last little bit is pretty much common sense, but David is saying that authentic help only comes from God and that the blessings are what clothe us.  We wear our blessings on our sleeve and it’s what molds and brands us to be His.  It’s why we are so audacious towards Him for those of us who have that serious fire for our Father.

Jesus disproves Satan and religious scholars!

Jesus disproving religious scholars, who stated Satan was fighting against Satan:

Blessings to all:

Mark 3:20-30 :

Jesus came home and, as usual, a crowd gathered — so many making demands on him that there wasn’t even time to eat.  His friends heard what was going on and went to rescue him, by force if necessary.  They suspected he was getting carried away with himself.  The religion scholars from Jerusalem came down spreading rumors that he was working black magic, using devil tricks to impress them with spiritual power.  Jesus confronted their slander with a story: “Does it make sense to send a devil to catch a devil, to use Satan to get rid of Satan?  A constantly squabbling family disintegrates.  If Satan were fighting Satan, there soon would be no Satan left.  Do you think it’s possible in broad daylight to enter the house of an awake, able-bodied man, and walk of with his possessions unless you tie him up first?  Time him up, though, and you can clean him out.  “Listen to this carefully.  I’m warning you.  There’s nothing done or said that can’t be forgiven.  But if you persist in your slanders against God’s Holy Spirit, you are repudiating the very One who forgives, sawing off the branch on which you’re sitting, severing by your own perversity all connection with the One who forgives.”  He gave this warning because they were accusing him of being in league with Evil.

  • Forever people will slander Jesus

How do we handle slander against God?

  1. Quantifiably conceptualize their point
  2. Assist in illustrating the importance of not having such strong tunnel vision
  3. Emphasize the importance to recognizing premise
  4. Contextualize any points they may believe they have – or have
  5. Pray
  6. Seek answers from our creator, as we cannot do this alone
  7. Show them what God has given to you and do so respectfully
  8. Lastly, understand that you are not them and you cannot control their being/thinking

Essentially this all boils down to the exact situation and exactly how Jesus would handle the given situation, but here in this passage in Mark is exactly how Jesus would and did handle the given situation.  Ultimately, we can only do so much in this life, but with the assistance of God and them accepting God, everything within the relationship between the two is insurmountable.  The reason that Jesus went with the logical, more cerebral, argument here is because at this time (even today) the people of the world were ”thinkers”, it was a time of great philosophers.  All philosophers had gatherers among them, Jesus was no different ‘hence the crowd’.  But in all instances, Jesus uses such great progressions to prove his point.  Another prime example to prove the logical nature of the beings (humans) would be earlier in Mark three when he heals the crippled hand on the Sabbath, which turned the people of the world against him…solely because religion said Sabbath was off-limits for work.  Quite ironic, eh?

The entirety of this lesson is just to let you know that there are a lot of people who cannot quantifiably illustration or understand God’s love.  But slander against Jesus or God, or His Spirit is one more thing thrown to fire, so here is how you handle those types situations.  Seemingly I see these type of situations come up in our daily lives and this is what has had the most success.  I ask that you not shove Jesus down their throat in attempt to like disprove everything they say, but rather gracefully speak factual knowledge.  I hope this has helped someone today!

The book of the Bible you've probably never heard preached, ran accross, or even heard of! Philemon!

The book of the Bible you’ve never read, heard preached, or probably ever crossed.

philemon

The book of Philemon is merely…a letter of reference or recommendation to give a credible account of Onesimus’ progression as a brother in Christ.  Onesimus, a slave of Philemon, had become a believer of Christ because of Philemon.  Typically the head of the household was a role model for the rest of the household in their faith!  Thus, it may have just been name sake, but Onesimus seeks Paul so deeply that Onesimus actually runs away from Philemon and his household. Onesimus runs and grows his faith so deeply in God (Philemon 1:14-16) that Paul says explicitly how he fathered a child and now Onesimus is ready to be more than just an inquisitive person, but a true Christian brother.  Paul is writing to Philemon to explain this slave is of much more value than physical labor.
privacy
There is the context of the message, but this message was so private, as all letters of recommendation are, yet it was so public for the rest of humanity to see.  Why?  What sense does it make that Paul writes a letter of recommendation for a slave, something so private that no other man could see, but when God did the final draft of the Bible:  this letter makes it in the final cut?  Well in order to see why God puts the book in there, let’s take the perspective from Onesimus, previously mentioned as the slave.  In order for Onesimus to grow in his own faith, it was necessary for him to break out or to run away from his slave master and seek something much greater that can help him in any situation imaginable.  You see, Onesimus runs away to Paul, seeking Paul for help in growing to Christ.  Paul fathers Onesimus for a time period and then Onesimus heads back to Philemon.

However, here’s something to really catch your attention, because I believe the book has two purposes, two perspectives, and two different thought processes depending on your current situation. Let us now take the perspective of Paul, whom is imprisoned at the time.  Paul takes this guy, with Timothy by his side, and takes the time to teach his good friend’s slave.  Remember Paul is in jail at the moment, Paul is in his most vulnerable state, times where you and I would be angry at God. Here’s where it gets crazy though!  Paul not only helps this random guy by helping him get straight with God, but (v.15-20) “Maybe it’s all for the best that you lost him for a while.  you’re getting him back now for good – and no mere slave this time, but a true Christian brother!  That’s what he was to me – he’ll be even more than that to you.  So if you still consider me a comrade-in-arms, welcome him back as you would me.  If he damaged anything or owes you anything, chalk it up on my account.  This is my personal signature – Paul – and I stand behind it.  (I don’t need to remind you, do I, that you owe your very life to me?) Do me this big favor, friend.  You’ll be doing it for Christ, but it will also do my heart good.”
CleanSlate

- Paul is writing that it’s not so bad that you lost your slave, because now you’re not just getting back a slave but a Christian brother!  But Paul backs up Onesimus by saying that not only is he a changed man, but that if (and I assume he did) Onesimus owes Philemon anything that Paul will clean the entire slate of anything that he owes.  Paul will pay any debt that Onesimus has endured or accumulated over the years.  Wow.  Can you imagine that?  Picture how much a slave owes his slave owner, making merely nothing?  Yet Paul says to put it on his tab, as if this is Onesimus getting a second life.  But (v.21-22) speaks of Paul and his confidence of Philemon, saying, “I know you well enough (Philemon) to know you will (forgive his debt).  You’ll probably go far beyond what I’ve written.  And by the way, get a room ready for me.  Because of your prayers, I fully expect to be your guest again!

Let’s wrap this up by putting this in our terms, with great contextual knowledge.  Paul took this guy who was a slave under his wings and cleared everything that had every happened to this guy.  How similar does this to sound to what Jesus has done for each and every one of us?  Jesus will break us our of any bondage, issue, or anything that we encounter if we seek Him, Jesus.  Not only will Jesus get us out of bondage, but He will literally wipe our slate clean as snow, just as Paul does for Onesimus.  You see, the reason this message was private is because Paul wanted to be directly personal with a good friend and brag one-on-one to Philemon about Onesimus.  But the reason God felt that this private message was so important and significant for the rest of public humanity to view is because of the way Paul handled Onesimus.  How Paul acted exactly as Jesus would have, as we all should have.  If Paul was doing this on his spare time, in private, imagine the works of this guy in the public?  This not only teaches us what Jesus does for us, but illustrates how we should take people under our wings and bless them unconditionally in any way that we can.  The message is so big here, so significant, but so short and sweet as well.  You could literally read this letter in one minute, but the importance, the context, and the significance is so great that we needed to read this book in order to see what Jesus can do for us.  It shows all three phases of the relationship, first we must seek Him, second we must assist others, and third we must follow the same ways of Jesus as we are missioned to do so.  Our sole purpose on Earth is to seek Jesus and to be fishers of men and bring as many people as we can to this amazing one that we call God!  Thus we must reflect His astounding radiance to the rest of humanity, but also in private as well.

How experience can be your greatest asset in the flesh, but weakness in a spiritual sense!

How experience is our greatest asset in the flesh, but a weakness in our spiritual life!

Good morning and God bless all of you.  I hope that this message comes to all of you in a well state of mind.  Today, I will give a little fruit for your brain on how experience can be your biggest strength and weakness as a Christian believer.
experience
Experience can be defined as the following: practical contact with and observation of facts or events or encounter or undergo (an event or occurrence).  Thus, experience can only be gained by the hands on work of something, it cannot be absorbed by viewing; rather simply actually participating in a process to achieve a common goal.  Experience is something that we all long for, it will help us get that new job, help us learn to NOT do things in the future, or even experience can assist us on whether or not we should take either the back roads or the highway.  Often times we find ourselves thirsting for experience, so we try to put ourselves in the best possible situation to ensure that the time we have the leadership role, we will not be unprepared. But rather have the answers necessary in order to output a successful situation (e.g product, event, service, etc).
Experiencetraits
Experience in the world today is as prevalent as ever due to the fact it is:
  • Useful
  • Usable
  • Findable
  • Credible
  • Valuable
  • Desirable
  • Accessible
The traits speak for themselves and assist us in becoming a better and more equipped person.  Matter of fact, experience is so well-thought of that my University consistently harps on the magnitude of having tons of experience.  The idea sounds great though, you look at two resumes (same age), one candidate has 21 years of experience in this field and meanwhile the other has never worked in this field in his life.  It is obvious you are probably going to throw away the one resume and hire your dream candidate who has a lot of experience in your given field.  So sure, in this life, experience can take you down routes that nothing else can get you there.  But the real issue comes when we pour our experience driven work mindsets to Church and to the body of Christ.  At this point we becoming so dependent upon our experience that we quit looking for answers from God and trust ourselves instead.  Our own experience and our own self becomes an idol to not only us, but the given person whom is relying upon their experience.  Often times this trait leads us to fail in regards to collaboration with the Father.  We stop asking for directions, alike in the flesh, except instead of taking a wrong turn being on a line; our entire eternity may be.
ask-for-directions1
Perhaps, you are reading this and you are that guy with 20+ years of management experience and ultimately you rely upon your own knowledge in every situation and that works great, kudos to you.  But very few and far between are capable of doing so, actually all (most of all) people will need God to truly comprehend the given task at hand.  Here is why we we often times forget about God and go with our past, it is a mere process of evolution throughout society.
  1. We weren’t prosperous
  2. God blesses us
  3. We become prosperous
  4. We lose humility
  5. We focus on our own gifts (that God gave us)
  6. Yet lose focus on our Master
  7. We forget to thank the One who made us prosperous.
  8. We place ourselves on a pedestal above God.
We all begin at this place in our lives where we are not successful and break down to God and God gives us assistance, an opportunity to excel in life.  Suddenly we become successful and things are going better than we could have ever imagined, but we begin to take it for granted and lose humility.  We lose sight on exactly where we were in the beginning of the process, when we were actually reliant upon God.  Then instead of focusing on the tools God has given us (i.e. Bible & Holy Spirit), we focus on flesh like things such as experience to get us through our difficult times.  This can become increasingly dangerous because not only are we not focusing God, but we fail to notice that it was God who blessed us with the very gifts and situation that we are becoming reliant upon.  Lastly, we forget to thank God for all that He does and the many blessings that He has given us.  We even begin questioning if God could even be of assistance in certain situations.  If we’re constantly tooting our own horn for too long, we will have this notion that our experience can drive us through any situation and God isn’t really of any assistance.  We put God on the back-burner sort of like the last pick in a pick-up game of basketball.  You pick the guy because you have to, but you don’t trust him enough to give him the ball and let him make a play.  Often times, when relying on fleshly things such as experience, we have this tendency to put God below ourselves and only go to Him if we…………………………..absolutely have to.  This approach is not a very sustainable one, it’s an approach that’s destined for failure.  We must begin on focusing on God, even if we believe we have the answer, ask God.  Let God speak to you, because remember He is perfect.  God knows all things.  We must begin focusing on the Holy Spirit rather than the traits we think we have mastered in this world.  This issue of relying upon ourselves is found all too often in the world today, in a society of self-exalting social media, and self-gratification.  The reality is if God wants you to be exalted, He will exalt you.  Trust that the Father will do the necessary things that are in His very Will that has gotten us to where we are.
holy-spirit1
Perhaps you’re having trouble with being too reliant upon your own character traits, I simply suggest you get back into the Word and let God give you the guidance that is necessary for the success of yourself.  Again, God will exalt you if you need to be exalted.  Do not be afraid to ask for directions, remember you’re not asking an Exxon clerk, you’re asking a perfect God who knows all things.
1 Thessalonians 5: 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (NIV)
On this planet we have two basic missions.  1) Follow the Will of God.  2) Witness and bring as many people to Jesus as possible.  Paul explicitly writes here that Rejoicing always, praying continually, and always giving thanks to God is apart of the Will of God.  It is not just a suggestion, but rather a command we must follow in order to fulfill God’s Will.  So stop relying on yourself and let God do the works of an all-mighty omnipresent Lord and Savior.
To end this blog, I want to speak of a little irony that is found by desiring something like experience in our flesh.  The same traits such as:
  • Useful
  • Usable
  • Findable
  • Credible
  • Valuable
  • Desirable
  • Accessible
Can be said for what God can be used for in our own life.  God is always the following:
  • Useful
  • Usable
  • Findable
  • Credible
  • Valuable
  • Desirable
  • Accessible

See?  Maybe Experience isn’t what we should be focusing on, but something/someone much larger who can bless us with opportunity and far surpass something as simple as experience.  Our God knows what’s best for us.  God bless you and have a wonderful day!
